Afar Conference
In Brussels October 17-19, 2008
Afar regions face daunting challenges: among others in health,
education, infrastructure, recurrent draught due to environmental
degradation, political mismanagement (lack of good governance),
inter and intra-tribal conflicts in the Regions.
We believe that the regional government cannot alone cope with all
these issues involved. We also believe that the Afar Diaspora has
moral obligation to be the agents of change and to be part of a
positive development.
The Afar Forum is now hosting a conference in Brussels with
objectives:
To address the socio-economic and political challenges of the Afar
Region and explore a comprehensive vision and strategy, within the
specific context of current Horn of African regimes, that delineates
the geopolitical issues of the Afar people.
To establish a network among Afar Diasporas that could support and
contribute to the regional development such as an improved
institutional and administrative functioning in terms of policy,
management, planning and administrative capacity building, be the
role models in mobilizing the civil society to wards societal
development.
On Saturday night there will be cultural show for entertainment!!
The Afar Forum is inviting everyone

AFARNET GROUP
Afarnet
is an independent, non-political and non-religious
website that has grown out of the initiative of a group of
Afars concerned about the situation of
marginalized Afar people in the Horn of
Africa. The group, with
different professional background, has been involved in the affairs
since the early seventies, and are well familiar with
political, social, and economical developments in the region.
The Afarnet covers the events as it may
appear in all of the Afar land irrespective of its attachment with
the States of the Horn of
Africa, as well as its political
affiliations. The idea behind the Afarnet
is to highlight firsthand, independent and objective information
regarding current developments and objective analysis of events that
are shaping the Afar land. The information would be available from
Afar communities at ground levels, various institutions and as well
as from individuals involved in the region.
Our website is open to any one who has interest and concerned about
the situation in the Horn of
Africa in general and the Afar in particular.
We believe that the Afar problem could be resolved within the
framework of the Horn of
Africa and think the Afar issue is part and
parcel to tackle the problem in the region. Within this context, we
encourage a comprehensive idea that would contribute to the
resolution of the conflict and bring about peace and development in
the region.
